The Sonic Youth guitarist and his band add two more shows to their tour.
He was never really considered a leader in the great New York noise group Sonic Youth, but there is more than a decent number of that band's fans who consider Lee Ranaldo to be their favourite member of the band. It is very exciting then to announce that the Lee Ranaldo Band have added two more shows - in Sydney and Brisbane - to their already confirmed engagement at this year's Melbourne Festival.
Ranaldo, who was a founding member and guitarist (and sometime vocalist) with Sonic Youth, brings songs from his huge canon of solo albums to the live stage for these shows and while we're not entirely certain as to who will be a part of his band on these shows, we believe that fellow Sonic Youth legend Steve Shelley will drum and noise/free jazz virtuoso Alan Licht will be there helping out. No word yet as to whether other band members like Nels Cline or John Medeski will be present.
Ranaldo's latest solo effort Between The Times & Tides is a pretty fantastic collection of noisy but tuneful indie rock, the kind he often delivered so well in Sonic Youth, and these shows ought to be a great showcase of his diverse songwriting and performing smarts. Dates are below, tickets for the Sydney and Brisbane shows are on sale Wednesday 15 August.
