Naarm/Melbourne rock outfit Leatherman have unveiled their latest single today, with the exuberant Heartbeater Cheetah arriving as the latest taste of their forthcoming debut album.
Arriving as a special Valentine’s Day treat, Heartbeater Cheetah is everything that encapsulates the sound of Leatherman. Equal parts power pop and classic, ‘70s-inspired rock, the track is filled with the slick riffs, soaring vocals, and catchy-as-hell hooks that leaves you wanting more.
According to the band, it was one that was a bit of a last-minute arrival in the recording studio, but one which was a welcome addition and easily fit alongside the rest of the tracks on the album.
“We wanted that filthy rock ‘n’ roll edge to the lyrics but still tied in elements of power-pop-inspired love songs,” the band explains. “It’s about crushing on someone who lives their life hard, fast and fun.”
Capturing the band in their element, the track also comes accompanied by a video featuring Leatherman performing at The Last Chance Rock & Roll Bar, interspersed with candid footage of the group’s members having fun both in and out of the studio.

Having first formed just a few years ago, Leatherman quickly made a name for themselves on the live scene thanks to their big sound and unmissable live shows. They began sharing singles back in 2023, with Telephone and Trying 2 4get both arriving that year, and Big Shoes emerging back in September.
All of these tracks will accompany Heartbeater Cheetah on Leatherman’s debut album, Turn You On, which arrives on April 10 via Legless Records.
Described as an unapologetic love letter to the audacity of rock and roll, Turn You On combines the theatrics of ‘70s guitar-hero rock, the excess of ‘80s metal, and the irresistible hooks of power pop. Featuring members of Cable Ties, Clowns, and more, you can rest assured you’re in fine hands with the Leatherman team.
Leatherman’s Turn You On is out on April 10.
