Part of Leaps & Bounds 2016

Over 30 venues — including bars, restaurants and record stores — are taking part in the inaugural Brunswick St Soul Fiesta set to take place Saturday 9 July.

The fiesta is part of the annual Leaps & Bounds festival activities that happen every July in the City Of Yarra (that's all the northside inner city suburbs, in case ya didn't know — Abbotsford, Collingwood, Fitzroy, Richmond and a few more).

Kicking off at 3pm, the event will include free street art walking tours as well as lots of live acts and DJ's playing a broad cross-section of soul, funk, hip hop and jazz into the night.

The fiesta promises to celebrate the "old guard icons" of Brunnie St (Mario's, Polyester Books, Evelyn) alongside the precinct's newest go-to spots (Ichi Ni Nana Izakaya, Stone Hotel, Rooks Return, Glamorama).

Collarts Music College will also host public events throughout the day — their gallery space will be displaying a collection of archival Melbourne music photos (also boasting the old door of The Tote).

Among the bands playing Leaps & Bounds sets in the area on the night are Lady Voodoo & The Rituals (The Luwow), Mark Fitzgibbon Trio (Uptown Jazz Cafe) plus Reverend Funk & The Horns Of Salvation (Royal Derby).
