Lana Del Rey made a young band’s dreams come true over the weekend, appearing on stage with them as they performed her song West Coast.
As NME reports, the band – called The Fastest Kids In School – were performing a small outdoor show in Santa Barbara, California, on Saturday (27 September). They were performing Del Rey’s song West Coast, from her 2014 album Ultraviolence.
The band revealed that Del Rey was walking nearby during their performance, and upon hearing West Coast, approached the band and asked if she could be the guest vocalist for her song.
Sharing footage of the dream collaboration, the band captioned a post on Instagram, “Super honored @honeymoon joined us on stage at Institution today! Truly a show we’ll never forget!”
The band’s Dan Grimes added that he couldn’t believe “that just happened”. “A moment I will never forget 🤯 Lana Del Rey joined us onstage today to sing the chorus of her song West Coast,” he wrote on social media. “I still can’t believe that just happened. Thank you Lana!!!”
In the comments section, Grimes shared that Del Rey was “out getting some ice cream” when she joined the band on stage.

“She just happened to be walking by while we were playing her song and motioned to see if we wouldn’t mind if she came on stage,” Grimes revealed. “Of course, we obliged and that is when my head exploded. She was just ‘out getting some ice cream’ she said.”

Del Rey is currently working on the follow-up to 2023’s Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. The forthcoming project has undergone numerous changes. It was initially named Lasso and followed a country theme, with a planned release date of September 2024.
However, the Video Games singer delayed the release, announcing that the album had been renamed The Right Person Will Stay. Last month, though, Del Rey revealed the album had again been renamed, now to Stove, and would be released in January 2026.
After initial reports around the album suggested Del Rey would follow a country direction, she then hinted that she’d tone down the country and go towards a “more Southern gothic” approach.
Del Rey released her ninth album, Did You Know That There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, in March 2023. The album debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums and Vinyl Chart, giving the singer her fifth #1 album in Australia.
