Lana Del Rey has released a near-11-minute art film as the music video for her track, Candy Necklace, featuring Jon Batiste, from her latest album Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd.
Throughout the Rich Lee-directed video’s runtime, Del Rey dresses up and dons the wigs of numerous Hollywood stars, including the one and only Marilyn Monroe.
“I just don’t know how to not be like a robot,” Del Rey says as she sits before a camera, wearing a wig that resembles Marilyn Monroe. Decrying the fake and fickle lifestyles Hollywood careers inspire, she adds, “I just need to shoot, shoot, shoot. It’s not working anymore for me.”
Candy Necklace is one of Del Rey’s most beautiful compositions. Looking lost and upset, she sings, “Sittin’ on the sofa, feelin’ super suicidal/ Hate to say the word, but, baby, hand on the Bible, I do/ Feel like it’s you the one who’s bringin’ me down.” Check out the music video below.
In February, Del Rey dropped an uncensored clip for A&W. Instrumentally, the song is sparse until the electronic drums take over. Lyrically, Del Rey explores her childhood ("I haven’t done a cartwheel since I was nine") before entering adulthood.
As A&W approaches its hook, she sings, "Call ’em up, come into my bedroom / Ended up, we fuck on the hotеl floor / It’s not about having someone to love mе anymore / This is the experience of being an American whore."
