South-West Sydney hip hop artist, producer and community figure L-FRESH The LION has returned to the local music circuits with FLY ABOVE IT, marking his first bit of music in 4 years.

Born Sukhdeep Singh to Punjabi immigrant parents in South-West Sydney, L-FRESH has always worn his heritage and upbringing on his sleeve. Inspired by hip hop greats like Public Enemy, KRS-One and 2Pac, he went on to create music that blends personal values with Sikh values passed onto him by his parents – virtues that establish an understanding of equality and purpose. With that, L-FRESH has gone on to push a global hip-hop movement, receiving an ARIA nomination, a YouTube Creators For Change ambassadorship that took him to the United Nations to speak and perform, and collaborations with names like Mike Elizondo (Eminem, 50 Cent).

Now, L-FRESH is investing back into the area that raised him, becoming the co-founder and artistic director of Conscious, a program by Campbelltown Arts Centre made to foster and support Western Sydney’s vibrant hip hop community.

His 2020 project SOUTH WEST is a heartfelt tribute to his roots, a sentiment that the artist has never shied away from expressing. As he leads into the release of his forthcoming EP REINCARNATED, his latest single FLY ABOVE IT captures a re-energized and uplifted L-FRESH, ready to take on his shortcomings with brash bars over a classic 2000s boom bap beat. Each bar speaks honestly about the artist’s personal, professional and developmental challenges, spat as a reminder to find strength and stability within himself. With themes of optimism and resilience, the track is inspired by his family and their unfaltering belief in him and his journey to come.

Entirely self-produced and mixed, this single teases the next chapter in L-FRESH’s career. Having debuted tracks from the REINCARNATED EP at the Aussie BBQ for Summerstage in New York, representing Australia in the celebrations of 50 Years of Hip Hop, fans were also able to hear snippets of the project during his headline tour in Canada. Now, Aussie and international fans are able to bask in the glory of new L-FRESH The LION, a testimony to the artist’s continually growing, loyal fanbase.
