"We hung out and he kind of put me on the spot a bit."
Australian icon Kylie Minogue almost recorded with late music legend Prince.
Speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music ahead of the release of her new album DISCO this Friday, Minogue recounted the near collaboration, which she described as “an almost dream come true”.
Minogue met Prince in the early ‘90s, following a show at Earls Court in England.
“I don't know where I plucked up the courage from, but I said, ‘Ah, I'm making an album,’” Minogue told Lowe.
“I'm more gutsy than I kind of make out sometimes even to myself. We just kind of hung out… we hung out and he kind of put me on the spot a bit.

“He was like, ‘So where are your lyrics?’ I'm like, ‘I don't...’ ‘Where do you want your mic set up?’ I just like wrote some lyrics. I didn't even write songs then. I mean, I kind of wanted to, but I didn't really, and I gave him some lyrics.
“I spoke with him on the phone, and he said, ‘My driver is going to drop over with the cassette.’ There's a cassette in my hand with Prince singing, a song called Baby Doll, that I kind of was involved with… that was my almost, we didn't record it.
“I suggested it to my label and I think [Prince] would want it to do it all and they weren't into that. That was that.”
Said unreleased Baby Doll recording was apparently tracked by Prince at Sydney’s iconic Studios 301 in 1992 during his Diamonds & Pearls tour.
