Well, that was unexpected: Kylie Minogue did a shoey while she was at the BRIT Awards over the weekend.
In footage shared by the BRITS X (formerly known as Twitter) account, host Roman Kemp (son of Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp) said it would be “amiss” of him not to mention the Aussie tradition of a shoey between award presentations. Thankfully, the moment didn’t happen while Minogue was on stage performing or accepting the Global Icon Award.
After producing a pair of black stilettos from under the table, Kemp asked, “So, will Kylie Minogue do a shoey with me at the Brits? If I ask for your shoe, can I do that?”
Looking a bit grossed out, Minogue hesitated before quizzing the audience, “Do I do this?” to cheers. Kemp then poured alcohol from a can into two stiletto shoes, and the pair did a shoey. You can watch the moment below.

Kylie Minogue is a three-time BRIT Award winner, winning Best International Female and Best International Album for Fever in 2002 and International Female Solo Artist in 2008.
Last February, British singer Harry Styles performed a shoey on his first date on his Australian tour, telling his enthusiastic fans that he was “ashamed” of himself for doing it.
“It’s been a dream of mine,” the As It Was singer said before pouring the contents of a bottle into his shoe.
“This is one of the most disgusting traditions I’ve ever heard of,” he added, then went for it, downing the contents of his sneaker before putting it back on his foot.
Addressing the audience after the shoey, he commented, “I feel ashamed of myself. It feels so personal, such an intimate moment to be shared with so many people. I’ll be discussing this with my therapist at length.”
In other recent Kylie Minogue news, the singer has been nominated for the 2024 APRA Song of the Year (for Hold On To Now) – the winner will be announced on Thursday, 4 April.
Minogue recently featured on the new Sia single Dance Alone and took home her second Grammy Award last month, this one for Best Pop Dance Recording.
She won the award for Padam Padam ahead of David Guetta, Anne-Marie & Coi Leray (for Baby Don’t Hurt Me), Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding (Miracle), Bebe Rexha & David Guetta (One In A Million), and Troye Sivan’s Rush.
