Koi ChildYesterday it was revealed that the WA music industry is worth nearly $1 billion to the WA economy, perfect timing for the annual WAMAwards to shine a light on some of the parts at play.
The massive WAMFest program kicked off tonight with the WAMAwards consuming its new home of Claremont Showgrounds, with jazz-rap collective Koi Child claiming four out of their five nominations — including Most Popular Act and Best Album — followed by local legend Abbe May, who picked up Best Single and Best Female Vocalist.
Other multi-award winners were Daniel Susnjar Afro-Peruvian Jazz Group, POW Negro, and Management Award winner Jacob Snell, who was bestowed the Golden WAMi.
The public voted categories — hosted by theMusic.com.au — saw victories for Camp Doogs (Most Popular Music Event), Mojo's Bar (Most Popular Venue third year running) and more.
After some of the state's best took to the stage to claim awards and perform, Rick Steele and The Triffids were inducted into the WAM Hall Of Fame.
