Gomeroi rapper based on Bidjigal country in Maroubra, South Sydney, Kobie Dee, is preparing to share a new collaboration with Australian-born Kiwi singer Stan Walker.

Sharing a series of photos from the studio on Instagram, Dee wrote, “Had the pleasure of working in the studio with the brother Stan Walker & [musician] Matt Sadgrove out in Aotearoa the other week on a track that I can’t wait to share with you all!

“Aotearoa is a place that I’ve always wanted to visit, having family who are also Māori and Aboriginal I’ve always felt the close connection between our cultures.” No word on when the track will be released, but the hype is real.

This September, Kobie Dee will star on the 2023 Listen Out festival line-up for four days of the event’s epic 10th birthday celebration.

This year’s Listen Out boasts SkrillexFour Tet, and Metro Boomin coming hot off their legendary Coachella 2023 set to head Down Under.

They'll also be joined by the likes of Lil Uzi Vert, Ice Spice, Marc Rebillet, JPEG MAFIA, VV Pete, Mallrat and more.

Last year, Dee embarked on a free outdoor series, the Gomeroi Nation Tour.

On the Gomeroi Nation Tour, Dee said: “The Gomeroi Nation Tour is an opportunity for me to perform on my Country. This means a lot to me from a cultural and healing perspective, performing on Country and telling my stories through music and dance, passing on knowledge, experience and wisdom like my ancestors have for thousands of years.

"I want to role model a way forward and show that if I can do it, they can do it too. I want to bring people and communities together in celebration and for fun, and give them an opportunity to escape their worries, trauma and hardships for one night with all expenses covered and all access granted.”

Later in 2022, Dee released the track Basics, which spoke about where he was in life, celebrating where he came from to get where he ended up.

“In the second verse, I speak on where I was at before and what I had to overcome,” Dee explained. “For me, it was overcoming addiction and losing so many friends to drugs and suicide. I've lost more than ten people I know to suicide, and this has impacted me a lot.

“In the final verse, I circle back to how it is for me now... even though these things still impact me and are still things I deal with right now, I have definitely grown as a person, and I feel lucky I am able to navigate these challenges through my music.”
