King Stingray may be heading to Europe and the UK for the first time this year, but next month, they’re going to headline a special event right here at home.
The Art Gallery of New South Wales will host an expansive, one-off event called Volume presents: Lightning Song. Offering a night of surf rock, indie rock, folk, and house music, the Lightning Song program coincides with NAIDOC Week and the Art Gallery’s upcoming exhibition, Yolŋu power: the art of Yirrkala.
Joining King Stingray at the event on Wednesday, 9 July, are fellow First Nations artists such as singer-songwriter Alice Skye, house music talent Keanu Nelson, and Kev Carmody, who’s set to premiere a new composition, CarnavonGirraweenBunyas.
Volume presents: Lightning Song will take place from 5 pm until 10 pm. The event is free to attend, and no bookings are required. You can find more information on the Art Gallery of New South Wales website.
King Stingray released their self-titled debut album in 2022 and the follow-up album, For The Dreams, in November 2024.
The band then embarked on an Australian tour in March; a month later, their song Through The Trees, won the Most Performed Rock Work award at the 2025 APRA Awards.

Reviewing their show opening for Midnight Oil in April 2022, Mick Radojkovic wrote for The Music: “There seemed to be little nerves, despite playing to what is surely one of their biggest audience yet.
“Their songs, representing camp-life, being one people, coming together and generally uplifting subjects, combined with a stomping guitar and driving drums, ensured the rock-thirsty crowd's appetite was sufficiently whetted.”
