Most bands would be happy to have released one or two albums in a three-year stretch, but King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are comprehensively not most bands, with the many-membered fuzz-rock legends announcing Paper Mâché Dream Balloon, their seventh album since 2012, today.

Set for release on 13 November via Mushroom, the new album will be a 12-track collection of acoustic songs from the Melburnian garage lords, and a very deliberate departure from the concept-heavy pursuits of previous full-lengths Quarters! (2015) and I'm In Your Mind Fuzz (2014).

"After Mind Fuzz and Quarters I was starting to get over concept records," frontman Stu Mackenzie wrote on the band's website. "I wanted to make an album with a collection of short, unrelated songs. I wanted to steer away from electric guitar music, which I felt like we'd explored pretty heavily on the last couple."

To that end, Mackenzie and his merry band of musos have pretty thoroughly canvassed the musical world outside the realms in which we're most accustomed to finding them, meaning that this next release will be anything but just another addition to the swifty swelling King Gizzard oeuvre.

"So, Paper Mâché Dream Balloon, the concept-less concept album, got a concept," he explained. "No electric instruments. Just acoustic guitars, flute, double bass, fiddle, harmonica, drum kit, clarinet, whatever we could find, really.

"We recorded it mostly in an empty shipping container on my parents' farm in country Victoria. It was all horses, emus and Tim Tams."

King Gizzard are currently completing an epic international tour, with their present leg taking them across the United States right through till this time next month.
