Tasmanian alt-metal artist Samuel Wellings, best known as their performance moniker Kim Dracula, revealed that they narrowly escaped their tour bus after it caught fire while they were sleeping.

Now living in the US, Kim Dracula is currently supporting the band Ice Nine Kills on tour. In a post shared to social media, they stated that their tour bus caught fire in Texas at 6 am local time, and most of the crew lost all of their possessions.

In terrifying video footage also posted to social media, Dracula showcased just how dangerous the fire had become and how lucky everyone was to make it out alive.

“At 6 AM this morning our bus caught fire while we were sleeping,” Dracula wrote. “I was in the back behind a locked door and was woken up by my crew screaming and banging on the door telling me to get off the bus.

“We all got off immediately and within 30 seconds the entire bus was engulfed in flames, starting right where I was laying down.”

Dracula continued, “Most of us lost all our possessions, including things we needed for the show. As such, we were unable to perform tonight and will not be able to perform tomorrow.”

Kim Dracula and their team hope to rejoin Ice Nine Kills in Madison, Wisconsin, this week.

“I am sorry to any of you who were looking forward to seeing us perform,” they concluded. “I was unable to make this post any earlier as I lost my phone in the fire. Everyone in the crew is safe however, including myself. We look forward to jumping back in soon.”

Kim Dracula is set to continue supporting Ice Nine Kills across the US until mid-September. The tour follows the artist’s European and UK headline dates from earlier this year, as well as a recent co-headline date across the US with Japanese metal group Hanabie.

In November, Kim Dracula will return home for a headline tour across Australia with special guests Wednesday 13. Their continuous touring comes after releasing their genre-bending debut album, A Gradual Decline In Morale, in 2023, and after amassing viral fame since 2020.
