'We're not much of a celebratory gang.'

You'd think getting the call-up to headline Coachella would be a big deal, but for Kevin Parker, the news may have slipped his mind.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, the Tame Impala frontman admitted that they "forgot" to tell his bandmates the big news when the line-up was announced earlier this month.

“They would’ve woken up, seen the poster and thought it was a joke,” Parker said.

“If they read this interview, they’ll know I forgot. We’re not much of a celebratory gang."

It was revealed a few weeks back that Tame Impala's call-up to the headlining slot came after Justin Timberlake was forced to withdraw from the April festival due to rescheduled headline tour dates and Parker said the Perth outfit will make the most of the opportunity.

He hinted that he may team with creative director Willo Perron who has produced shows for the likes of Kanye West, Lady Gaga and Jay-Z, as well as having already worked with Tame Impala two years ago at Primavera festival.

"I've held back before because we've always tried to be understated (but this is) kind of a licence to not be that anymore," Parker said of the Coachella headlining slot.

"If that means having 100 lasers instead of six, so be it. Without giving too much away, I think that's a given."

Tame Impala will share headlining duties across the two weekends with US megastars, Childish Gambino and Ariana Grande.

Other names confirmed for Coachella 2019 include The 1975, Weezer, Kid Cudi, Khalid, Solange and Janelle Monáe, as well as Aussie acts like RÜFÜS DU SOL, Parcels and FISHER.
