Kanye West Could Face A Year In Jail For Battery & Attempted Theft

The rapper faces court next month.

More Kanye West Kanye West

After an assault on a paparazzi at Los Angeles' LAX airport in July, rapper Kanye West has been charged with battery and attempted grand theft, Reuters reports.

A video posted by gossip kingpins TMZ shows West glaring at paparazzi as he leaves the airport before lunging at one of the cameramen present.

Los Angeles City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan has confirmed that West also attempted to take some of the photographers equipment after the altercation, which took place on July 19.

West will now have to face court in Los Angeles on Thursday 10 October; the maximum sentence for each misdemeanour he has been charged with is six months apiece, meaning the worst case scenario would see Kanye West behind bars for a year.

West released the critically acclaimed Yeezus earlier this year to much fanfare and then had a child, which he and partner Kim Kardashian named North West, to even more fanfare.
