Hip hop artist Scribe has appeared in a New Zealand court today after turning himself into police earlier this week.
As NZ Herald reports, the rapper, whose real name is Malo Luafutu, was released on bail with a judge giving him one last chance and warning he will be arrested if he breaches the conditions.
Police issued a warrant for his arrested after he failed to appear in Christchurch District Court last month charged with possession of an offensive weapon (a bat), possession of Class A drug amphetamine, and possession of a pipe for using amphetamine.
Duty lawyer Jewelly McVay said the past week had been "incredibly traumatic" for Scribe and "it's not a situation where he's been absconding from his responsibilities”.
"He's essentially been stuck in the wider Wellington region as a result of his sickness benefit being cut,” McVay said.
A new court date for the weapons and drugs charges will be set soon.
