Plus, they will take to the road in a support slot for Fat Freddy's Drop in September
Soul, gospel and hip hop duo Jones Jnr. have taken the wrapping off their new mixtape, set for a late-August release, and just as their debut was dropped to fans, the new group of tunes will be made available for free download.
The boys from Katoomba, Evan Jones and Morgan Jones – with no oddly relation whatsoever – merge their old-school soul sound with contemporary beats, fresh and ready to unveil The Soultape 2 to the world on Friday 23 August.
Learning and developing their own careers in their prior individual projects, Morgan with Thundamentals and Evan with Rumpunch, Jones Jnr. was formed after the popular Thundamental's Like A Version cover of Matt Corby's Brother, recorded last year on triple j and gaining over 800,000 views on YouTube.
Their debut mixtape, Soultape, was open for free downloaded from their website, the duo taking the same approach with this offering, also listening to the feedback they received the last time around, and constantly building and creating new interesting sounds.
“By popular demand we made the tracks longer. We had our own studio this time round, as opposed to Morgs bedroom, so we naturally delved deeper into the tracks, explored new sounds and used more live instruments,” said Evan Jones.
Having toured with the likes of Bettye Lavette, Jose James, Bilal and Oddissee and Olivier Daysal, Jones Jnr. will now prepare for a support slot with Fat Freddy's Drop after their Splendour In The Grass set, kicking off next month also, with a lineup slot on a list of Australia's most talented emerging artists for this year's Bigsound in September.
