John Farnham "thoroughly enjoyed" Robbie Williams' take on You're The Voice at the AFL Grand Final

Farnham watched the pre-game spectacle from his hospital bed, with a brief statement provided by Jill, Rob and James Farnham revealing that he was a fan of Williams' take on his iconic hit.

There wasn't a dry eye in the house as Robbie Williams took to the AFL Grand Final stage this afternoon with a rousing tribute to John Farnham, performing his mega-hit You're The Voice. The performance was punctuated with Jack himself on the big screens and in true Grand Final spectacle form, the stadium was full of flag-wavers, dancers and pyrotechnics.

The Farnham family provided an update on his health on Thursday, revealing that the beloved singer has now been discharged from hospital and moved to a rehabilitation facility to continue his treatment. The Australian music world was shocked last month when the 'Whispering Jack' star revealed that he was undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous tumour in his mouth.

The statement, issued by Gaynor Wheatley (TalentWorks) and David Wilson (Watercooler Talent) on behalf of the Farnham Family is as follows:

“John’s recovery from last month's surgery for mouth cancer is progressing well. His medical team are very pleased with his progress over the past month. He was moved from ICU and into a general ward a couple of weeks ago. That in itself was terrific progress.

This week John has been transferred into a rehabilitation facility. Each of these steps means things are moving in the right direction and for that we are enormously thankful.

Our family is so very grateful to all the remarkable teams of Victorian medical professionals who have taken such good care of John. These outcomes are a credit to their dedication, skills and compassion.

We have received many thousands of beautiful messages via the weloveyoujohn.com.au website since it was launched. Being surrounded by this much love and support has meant the world to us all. Thank you."

As John does not have an official social media presence, a dedicated website was set up by a consortium of Australian media for fan messages, prompting an outpouring of support for the singer.

The legendary singer-songwriter has been in the limelight since he was a teen, breaking onto the scene in the late 1960s.

His magnum opus was the 1986 released album Whispering Jack, which featured the standout single You're The Voice. It remains the second highest-selling album in Australia to date. He followed up Whispering Jack with other chart-topping records including Age Of Reason in 1988 and Chain Reaction in 1990.

Off the back of his supreme catalogue, he received 19 ARIA Awards, an Officer of the Order Of Australia award in 1996 and was named the Australian of the year in 1987.
