More John Butler More John Butler

The 2013 instalment of the Barunga Festival has just been boosted significantly with the announcement of John Butler as one of the headline acts today.

The event, which is held in the Barunga community 70km south of Katherine, is a celebration of indigenous culture encompassing the cream of the Katherine region's music, dance, sport and other artistic and cultural talents through across a long weekend in June.

Already announced on the line-up is the brilliant Gurrumul, so the festival has done pretty nicely with their first two announced acts, we think you'll agree.

This year is the first year that Skinnyfish Music's Mark Grose and Michael Hohnen have been given control of the event; they will continue to organise it for the next five years.

It takes place from Friday 7 June through to Monday 10 and tickets are just $30 or $10 for those under the age of 18. You can grab them here. Camping is available in the Barunga community or you can seek other accommodation in Beswick or Katherine.

Barunga is a dry community and there is a healthy food policy in place, as well as no fuel available for purchase.
