"Cold Chisel once again now is not just following on from where we were, it's evolving from where we were."
Just weeks after breaking the ARIA record for most #1 albums, Jimmy Barnes has confirmed he is now working on releasing a new record with Cold Chisel by the end of the year.
Appearing on The Green Room with Neil Griffiths podcast in celebration of the release of his latest album, My Criminal Record, the legendary frontman said working with Cold Chisel bandmate Don Walker on the record sparked work on what will be the band's first studio album since 2015.
"We started really communicating better as songwriters, so the rest of the band and I are gonna get together now and start writing and recording," Barnes said.
"I think by the end of the year we could have a really great Cold Chisel record out. Everybody feels really confident."
Barnes said the new Chisel music will make for an "interesting record".
"When we broke up in '83, we really thought it'd be like hell freezes over... we were at each other's throats, we thought we'd gone as far as we could. Stepping back until 1997 when we reformed for The Last Wave Of Summer, which I personally think is one of the best records we've ever made... we've realised since that point that there is so much more that we can do.
