Jay Weinberg, the prolific drummer best known for sitting behind the kit in bands such as Slipknot, Suicidal Tendencies, and more, has confirmed he has a solo record on the way.
Weinberg shared the news in the lead up to New Year’s Eve, posting an old picture while noting he’s never connected with the idea of ‘New Year’s resolution’, instead preferring to put his faith in “the power of intention, and following through on setting manageable goals”.
“One of my ambitions for 2025 is to record more music in the studio — starting with my own material I’ve been writing for quite a while,” he explained. “Some of which I’ve been working away at since my early 20’s.
“This photo is from 2017, during a period of time when I had actually put together a group to play this music in a band setting, during a prolonged downtime from touring. It was awesome, and a great creative challenge. I haven’t touched these songs since then, until recently feeling inspiration to pick the guitar back up and kick this stuff around again.
“It’s been a fulfilling experience, and I’ll tell you — I’m starting to like where these songs are headed,” he continued. “It feels good to finally set the intention of releasing some of this new music in the coming year.”

Weinberg – the son of longtime Bruce Springsteen drummer Max Weinberg – began his career by sitting in for his father as a member of The E Street Band. Following stints in Madball and Against Me!, Weinberg took over from Joey Jordison as the drummer of Slipknot in 2014.
After a decade as a member of the Iowa collective, Slipknot announced the “creative decision” to part ways with Weinberg – a decision he says left him “heartbroken and blindsided”.
In 2024, however, Weinberg joined both the Infectious Grooves supergroup and Suicidal Tendencies, with whom he continues to perform.
“I’m so looking forward to all the onstage fun that’s ahead of us (@suicidaltendencies supporting @metallica in stadiums, are you kidding me? 🔥),” he wrote in his Instagram post. “And I’m equally pumped to spend considerable time in the studio, especially working on this collection of songs.
“Stoked for you to hear them. When they’re ready, you’ll know.”
