The singer-songwriter had a history of alcohol issues.
American singer-songwriter Jason Molina has passed away over the weekend at age 39.
The Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co singer died on Saturday 16 March, it was announced in a statement by his longtime record label Secretly Canadian. According to Pitchfork, Molina passed from organ failure due to alcohol consumption. The musician had a history of alcohol issues throughout his short life.
Molina was first heard of with the release of his debut single Soul in 1996 under the Souls: Ohia name. It was a band of revolving musicians, with Molina the core of the group. He started releasing material with Magnolia Electric Co in 2005 and went on to record many solo albums as well.
Sadly, his battles with alcohol would continue to hinder his musical commitments and his personal life. Just two years ago, his family posted an emotional plea on the Magnolia Electric Co website for fans to help out with Molina's medical bills as a result of his numerous stints in rehab.
