Jared Leto has denied allegations of criminal sexual conduct following the airing of a new BBC documentary.
The documentary, Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, aired on the BBC on Wednesday (29 July), and the publication shared a report in which four women alleged the Thirty Seconds To Mars frontman and actor of criminal sexual conduct. An additional six women shared other claims, such as “strange and often very sexual phone calls” and “lewd” comments.
The incidents reported by the BBC allegedly took place between 2002 and 2016, when the women were teens, and Leto was in his 30s and 40s. He is now 54.
One of the women alleged that, when she was 17, Leto assaulted her in a motel bathroom. Another claimed that he threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19; a third alleged that she had sex with Leto in California at age 17, which would be classified as statutory rape; and a fourth woman alleged that Leto made sexually explicit suggestions over the phone when she was 16.
She claimed that she was sent a non-disclosure agreement to not discuss the alleged incidents with Leto, which she refused to sign. The BBC reportedly witnessed the document.
In the documentary, a total of ten women alleged that Leto “behaved in a sexually inappropriate way towards them,” The Guardian reports. Nine of the women shared their stories for the first time.
In a statement, a representative for Leto said, “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.”
The BBC and The Guardian note that the documentary follows another recent allegation towards Leto. Last year, American DJ Allie Teilz claimed that the singer assaulted her when she was 17.
A separate report via Air Mail saw nine women allege Leto engaged in “inappropriate behaviour” with them over the years. He denied the allegations.
