J-Pop Star Regains Consciousness After Being Stabbed More Than 20 Times

Some hopeful news for the singer.

Japanese pop star Mayu Tomita has reportedly regained consciousness just weeks after she hospitalised in a critical condition after being stabbed more than 20 times by a fan

According to Sankei Shinbun (via Tokyo Reporter), the 20-year-old singer awoke in an intensive care unit at a hospital on Friday, after suffering wounds to her neck, chest, arms and back in the attack during a meet and greet in Tokyo.

Tomita is expected to be interviewed by authorities once her condition improves.

The attacker, Tomohiro Iwazaki, allegedly confronted Tomita as he was upset a gift he sent the musician had been returned.

Iwazaki is expected to undergo psychiatric evaluation.
