A teenage music fan scored his way into a UK band's VIP section at a gig this week after altering their Wikipedia page to say he was the singer's cousin.
As Daily Mail reported, Adam Boyd decided to take action after being disappointed by his view of the stage at indie outfit The Sherlocks gig at Royal Albert Hall.
Noticing that there was an upstairs section, Boyd jumped on the The Sherlocks’ Wikipedia page and edited the 'Band's History' tab, writing, "They released their first single, Live For The Moment, in 2014, influenced by main vocalist Kiaran Crook’s cousin Adam Boyd".
And somehow, the plan worked.
"I needed an excuse, a reason to be let in," Boyd told Daily Mail.
"I don't know how the idea climbed to the top of all the other drunken ones I was probably having then, but it came to me to change their wiki page so I was included in it."
Boyd continued, "I was trying to find some way to ‘prove’ I was family. That's when I ‘remembered’ about being credited on Wikipedia, although I had changed it minutes beforehand, and showed him he and said ‘Fair enough" and let me past.
"I guess luck was on my side, either that or a gullible bouncer?"
We may have somewhat of a copycat scam on our hands though, as the same stunt was pulled here in Australia back in 2015 at a Peking Duk gig in Melbourne.
One punter managed to convince a security guard that he was Reuben Styles' step-brother, by listing himself as family on Wikipedia.
"It was probably the most genius, mastermind move that I've ever witnessed," Styles’ bandmate, Adam Hyde told The Guardian.
"It's crazy. He just did it on the spot, in a second on his phone.
"He told the security guard he was our stepbrother or something, and showed them the Wikipedia page and his ID."
