More Snoop Dogg More Snoop Dogg

We’re approximately two months away from the AFL Grand Final, and so the rumour mill surrounding who could headline the pre-game entertainment has powered up.

Snoop Dogg is rumoured to perform at the AFL Grand Final on Saturday, 27 September, per Ross Stevenson on 3AW’s Rumour File.

“It has been suggested to me that the grand final entertainment this year will be Snoop Dogg,” Stevenson said.

Rumour File co-host Russel Howcroft added that the AFL have reportedly taken charge of booking acts to perform on the big day, claiming that the organisation previously used to have a third-party company outsource the booking of its headliners.

“I don’t know whether this is rumour or flesh on the bones or just adding to the story, but I believe what's happening this year is that the AFL is taking full control of who is the entertainment at the grand final,” Howcroft added.

“They used to outsource it. There was a third party involved; that third party is no longer involved, [now] it’s all in-house.”

A spokesperson for Mushroom Group, which has secured previous AFL pre-game headliners Katy Perry, KISS, and Robbie Williams, said: “This year we’re proud to once again work with the AFL to produce another world-class spectacle for the Grand Final, and we’re excited for what’s planned.”

Reports have surfaced on Facebook that Snoop Dogg will perform with Dr Dre and Ice Cube in the Philippines on Thursday, 25 September, but no mention of said show is linked on the venue’s website. But it was a show that Stevenson cited, adding that if Snoop Dogg were in the Philippines, it made his potential appearance at the Grand Final more likely, as he’d only be an eight-hour flight away from Australia.

Last year, Katy Perry headlined the AFL Grand Final pre-game entertainment, while KISS performed in 2023 and Robbie Williams performed in 2022. At the time of publication, the AFL hasn’t confirmed who will headline this year’s AFL Grand Final pre-game entertainment.

In 2022, Snoop Dogg appeared at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, sharing the stage in a greatest of hip-hop performance with Dr Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and Eminem.

Snoop Dogg last toured Australia in March 2023. Reviewing his show at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, The Music’s Madison Thomas declared, “From the second Snoop takes the stage, all 6’3 of him, he does not take his foot off the gas. Every song is a highlight because his solo music is infinitely beloved, and his choice of collaborations has led to some of the most iconic releases in the last 30 years.”
