With independent music industry conference Indie-Con going ahead this week (1-2 October), we spoke with some of the 2020 moderators about their panels and why you shouldn't miss it.
“With such a great group of panelists I’m most interested to discover their thoughts on whether livestreaming can and will extend beyond the COVID-era - whether artists should be focusing their efforts on it or is it just a moment in time.”
“This conversation is one I'm particularly excited to facilitate. Not only because of the impressive hivemind that we have in the panelist line-up, but because it's about our future. This panel is about how we can make the music industry a better and safer place.
"The timing of this panel relates to recent events that have been highly publicised - predominantly thanks to the work of Jaguar Jonze and Michelle Pitiris - but I think that we as an industry have the power to do better. I think this panel is going to be a really great resource for those who want to see real change, and want to be part of that change.”
“I’ve been in the music industry for a long time (30 years!!) and have always enjoyed the constant evolution of music and the business that surrounds it, but also believe the fundamental instincts of finding incredibly unique talent and a vision for that talent has and will always be important.

"I am constantly educating myself on all things new which is why I am keen to hear everyone’s different views on 'New Wave A&R', the ideas and experiences from the highly qualified people on the panel, and how they find and gauge new artist talent.”
“Hopefully the panel will reflect the nimbleness the Australian music industry has exhibited in a year full of challenges.
"It goes without saying that there has been a so much turmoil from the effects of COVID-19 on the industry as a whole, but we want to shine a light on how artists, management and the industry have adapted and benefited from the ability to pivot.“
“We'll be discussing how the right preparation of your recorded music can help flex your revenue during and after the pandemic including sync, streaming data, social media, advertising and other revenue streams for independent labels and artists.”
As a Torres Strait islander, a business owner, and the moderator for the panel on diversity and inclusion policies, I am looking forward to unpacking what diversity and inclusion actually looks like in practice, with a focus on what we can do today to ensure long term meaningful change in our industry."
