End of an era.
After almost four decades, Iconic Sydney venue The Midnight Shift is set to close its doors for good next month.
Management of the Oxford Street-based nightclub confirmed to The Music today that it will officially close on Sunday, 1 October, though they declined to comment.
News of the venue's closure was made public by club night, The Sydney Hellfire Club, which announced yesterday on Facebook that its upcoming event next weekend may also be its last.
"After 24 1/2 years of doing this, we are really bummed that we won't get to celebrate The Sydney Hellfire Club's 25th Birthday in March. We were really looking forward to that milestone!" the Facebook statement reads.
"That is, of course, unless some wonderfully appropriate venue offers us a lifeline to hold our Friday 27 October party… but given the ever-shrinking state of Sydney's venues (thanks Mike Baird and the NSW Liberal Party), we're not very optimistic about that happening."

After opening in 1981, The Midnight Shift quickly became popular amongst the Sydney club and gay community.
As well as hosting drag shows and trivia nights, the venue was considered one of the city's biggest nightclubs in the '80s and '90s.
