The Getaway Plan ProfileWhen The Getaway Plan split in 2009 at the peak of their success, many were shaking their heads as to why. They've since reformed but there remains much speculation about the reasons behind the much-publicised hiatus.
“We were just touring non-stop,” said drummer Aaron Barnett.
“We had a pretty big single. We were touring constantly and, when we weren't, we were on the promo trail. A radio interview, a press interview. And we were still pretty young. You know, we weren't prepared for it. We just got too burnt out. We just had to stop.”
In hindsight the split turned out to be a positive for the band - wthey have found even greater success with 2011's hit album Requiem. But at the time, according to the band, it was one of the toughest experiences its members had been through.
“At the time, the breakup was the worst thing on earth," Barnett recalled.
“We came off Big Day Out and everything was just steamrolling ahead but, personally, we didn't realise how much we all hated it. One of us made the call and, at the time, we all hated him for it – but, after a while, we realised it was what we all wanted. You know, we'd been drifting apart. It wasn't working.”
