Horizon Sunshine Coast Arts & Culture Festival Opens Expressions Of Interest

9 February 2017 | 1:06 pm | Staff Writer

The nascent event returns for its second-ever showing in August and September

Following a hugely successful inaugural year in 2016, the Horizon Sunshine Coast festival is making its plans to return for an even bigger party in 2017, with expressions of interest now open for this year's event.

Stretching across 10 days and featuring more than 200 events in its massive program, the 2016 spread included everything from contemporary art and new media exhibitions to film, literature, performance, street art and other attractions, all of which brought more than 35,000 punters to the first-ever Horizon fest.

This year is looking to (at least) match that diversity of delights, featuring "a program of signature events including an inspirational opening, an art trail, the internationally renowned REMIX Summit, public art projects and an unforgettable festival finale", along with a region-showcasing Indigenous program, for this year's event.

Interested artists, producers, creatives and performers are encouraged to submit their expressions of interest via the festival's website, and may include either an existing piece ready for presentation, or a clear outline for a new, as-yet incomplete work (it'll need to be ready in time for the festival though, obviously).

The first round of EOI closes on 26 March, with the second round open from 29 March until 21 May. Guidelines, major areas of focus and other details about submitting your piece for consideration are available at Horizon's EOI information page — definitely worth a read, especially if you're a first-time applicant — or a direct link to apply is available here.

The 2017 Horizon Sunshine Coast festival will be held from 25 August to 3 September.
