Australian jazz-meets-R&B favourites Hiatus Kaiyote have released the electrifying new single, Everything’s Beautiful, and announced an accompanying secret show at The Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne (Naarm).
Everything’s Beautiful is Hiatus Kaiyote’s first new song of 2024 and marks the first taste of new music from the group in two years. The track was mixed by Mario Caldato Jr. (Beastie Boys, Björk, Blur, Beck).
Vocalist Nai Palm said about Everything’s Beautiful in a press release, “Everything’s Beautiful is a testament to the importance of finding simple joy in your day. To me, my happy place is walking around exploring the world with my headphones.
“I wanted to write something very simple without complex, deep philosophical meaning like most of my writing tends to be.”
Palm stated that she wrote the vocal melody and bass riff “in a dream” while napping on manager Scott Barkham’s couch in New York. Somehow, she brought the beginnings of Everything’s Beautiful “into the waking world” – something that’s usually difficult for her to do.
She continued, “Initially, the dream hook was Berry Street beautiful, but I changed the lyrics when I developed it more with the band. It’s not the delusion that we live in a utopia out here on this planet, but rather about actively looking for the beauty, grace and joy in life.”
