It was a... mixed reaction.
Ed Sheeran's much-hyped cameo on Game Of Thrones came much sooner than expected, as he appeared on the show's season seven opener yesterday… and yes, he sung.
The UK songwriter appeared as a Lannister soldier and besides occasionally smiling, there wasn't too much acting to critique on.
While many considered the cameo irrelevant, the song Sheeran sings in the episode, Hands Of Gold, does actually hold significant meaning.

As the Telegraph noted, the song appears in the Game Of Thrones books, which author George RR Martin wrote down the lyrics for in A Storm of Swords, the third novel in the A Song of Ice & Fire series.
Meanwhile, Foxtel has issued an apology to Australian fans after its online service experienced glitches during the season premiere.
Here's what people thought of Sheeran's cameo.

Only way to justify Ed Sheeran's #GameOfThrones cameo is for him to greet Bran with: "When your legs don't work like they used to before..."

Amazing to think that when George R.R. Martin was planning out Game of Thrones back in 1991 he already knew about Ed Sheeran.
