Heilung ProfileThe ritual returns. Nearly three years after their last visit to our shores, European experimental folk music band Heilung have announced their highly anticipated return to Australia and New Zealand for 2027.
Confirming their largest shows in the region to date, the band – comprising Kai Uwe Faust, Christopher Juul, and Maria Franz – return to our shores after a period of hiatus.
Heilung recently returned to the studio to begin working on their fourth album. Last week, they unveiled the single Læknisgaldr from their “in-between albums release,” Sagas. With their otherworldly rituals hitting stages across Australia and New Zealand, March 2027 is an unmissable time for fans.
The tour begins with two nights at the Sydney Opera House on Monday, 1 and Tuesday, 2 March. From there, the band heads to Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Thursday, 4 March, Brisbane’s Riverstage on Saturday, 6 March, Adelaide’s AEC Theatre on Tuesday, 9 March, and Perth’s Red Hill Auditorium on Friday, 12 March.
Following their Australian dates, Heilung travel to New Zealand, performing at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Tuesday, 16 March. For all shows except the Sydney Opera House dates, German-American singer-songwriter Lilith Max will join the band as their special guest.
Pre-sale tickets for the Sydney shows will go on sale Wednesday, 21 October, at 12 pm AEDT, followed by the general sale on Friday, 23 October, at 9 am AEDT. Head to the Sydney Opera House website for more details.
Early bird pre-sale tickets for all other dates will be available from Tuesday, 27 October, at 9 am local time. The general sale commences on Thursday, 29 October, at 9 am local time – visit the Destroy All Lines website for more information.
Heilung have defied musical and performance conventions since emerging in 2015. They describe their art as “amplified history,” drawing on the sounds, traditions, and spiritual practices of early civilisations to create their own extraordinary musical universe.
Their music is known for hypnotic percussion, haunting, layered vocals, throat singing, and the use of ancient instruments, while their shows are recognised for powerful visual ceremonies.
Faust said of the philosophy of the band, “With singing these primordial songs we want to give tribute to these cultures, reconnect to the beginnings and remember that we all, from East to West, from past to present, are connected through the exchange of ideas and inspiring each other.”
Reviewing the band’s 2024 performance at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, The Music’s Alasdair Belling wrote, “After a closing ceremony (featuring more smoking of the stage and cleansing of the performers and the audience), Heilung departed, concluding one of the most bizarre - but thrilling - musical experiences this venue has surely ever hosted.
“Neo-paganism is having its cultural moment, but Heilung feels a touch above the simple fad.”
