"Looks like once again artists are doing more for the country than our own government?!??"

The HeatWave fundraiser last night, set up by bands set to play Falls Festival, has raised over $5,000 for the Country Fire Authority.

WAAX, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers, Bakers Eddy, Cry Club and TOWNS came together to put on a gig at Stay Gold in Brunswick, and sold out the venue with with less than 24 hours notice.

Ticket sales for the event raised over $4,000, and the venue, Stay Gold, donated a portion of bar sales from the night taking the total to $5,800.

Falls Festival was forced to cancel its Lorne event due to extreme weather conditions.

"Thanks to all the bands and those who helped us behind the scenes to put this show together in fucking literally 5 hours," WAAX wrote on Facebook.

"Thank you to everyone soul who showed up - we sold it out and we raised a bunch of money. Looks like once again artists are doing more for the country than our own government?!?? How shocking. Do your bit and keep donating to your local firies."

Peking Duk also pulled together a last-minute fire relief fundraiser on 29 December which raised $50,000.
