'Star' is the freshest slice from the Brisbane indie kids, and it is goooood
Beloved Brisbane indie outfit Babaganouj have just kept on impressing us in 2016.
First it was Do Rite With Me Tonite and the year's first EP, Pillar Of Light. Then came the excellent Sorry and the Hard To Be EP.
Now, they're rounding out their banner 12 months — and, filled with interstate sojourns, a spot at BIGSOUND, the recent Gizzfest event in Brisbane and scores of other achievements and activities, it really has been a remarkable run — with their latest, and arguably best, new track of 2016, Star.
In typical 'nouj fashion, Star is a ludicrously appealing, eminently infectious track, showcasing gorgeous male-female vocal confluence atop rock-steeped, yet still shiny and happy, guitar tones. It's seriously one of the best things this band has done in recent memory and, given how much great stuff they've put out lately, that's saying something.

Sure, the track's already been premiered elsewhere, but it's so damn good that we want to highlight it here anyway. Again, this should tell you something about our belief in this band. Plus, they pretty generously provided us with this sweet little exclusive behind-the-scenes gallery of their adventures at Gizzfest and, frankly, we just can't say no to that kind of thing, especially when such lovely people are involved.
Anyway, here's our suggestion: flick on Star below, then look through the pics and feel your heart swell to about six sizes larger than it was at the outset, because that's just the kind of band Babaganouj goddamn well is.
The other side of the coin, of course, is that they've consequently set their own bar pretty high for 2017. So… not envying that. Ah, well. Cross that bridge when we come to it. For now, enjoy the finest of freshness from camp Babaganouj.
