Next month marks the 20th anniversary of Hannah Montana’s debut on our screens, catapulting Miley Cyrus to global superstardom. And overnight (17 February), Disney+ confirmed that celebrations to commemorate the milestone are on the way.

The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special will air on Disney+ on Tuesday, 24 March, arriving exactly 20 years to the day that the series had its debut on Disney Channel.

The news was shared via a teaser on Miley Cyrus’s and Disney+’s social media accounts, featuring a car with the “HM20” licence plate and Cyrus stepping out of the car in black leather high-heeled boots. The clip is captioned, “Go back to where it all began.”

Check out the teaser below.

In a statement, Cyrus expressed pride at the television (and movie) character continuing to resonate with audiences.

Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection,” Cyrus said (per Billboard).

She continued, “The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”

“Hannah Montana opened the door for so many fans to dream big, sing loud, and embrace every side of themselves, which is why its legacy continues to shine across generations,” said Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television. “Partnering with Miley on this special is a dream, and we want it to be a love letter to the fans, who remain as passionate today as they were when the series debuted almost 20 years ago.”

According to Deadline, the special will be filmed in front of a live studio audience, and Cyrus will be interviewed by Call Her Daddy podcast host Alex Cooper. The exclusive, in-depth conversation will find Cyrus discussing the series’s longstanding impact, while the star revisits the memories from the Hannah Montana days.

Fans will be treated to never-before-seen archival footage, while key sets such as the Stewart family living room and Hannah Montana’s walk-in closet are shown once more.

The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special is produced by HopeTown Entertainment and Unwell Productions, and Ashley Edens serves as showrunner. Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus is an executive producer alongside Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan.

In 2024, Cyrus was named a Disney Legend, becoming the youngest person in history to receive the honour. Hannah Montana ran on Disney Channel for four seasons and led to the 2008 concert film Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert and the 2009 feature film Hannah Montana: The Movie.

Cyrus was growing in popularity outside of the series and, following its conclusion, saw the singer and actress move on to new musical and acting ventures.

Hannah Montana was nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Children’s Program between 2007 and 2010.

In 2008, Cyrus took home the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Series. At the 2008 Australian edition of the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, Cyrus was named Fave International TV Star.
