Haim, CHVRCHES & Flaming Lips Win Inaugural Grulke Prize

A few of our favourite acts have been honoured in the wake of SxSW.

The inugural Grulke Prize, named after recently passed SxSW Creative Director Brett Grulke, has been awarded in Austin in the wake of the mammoth 2013 SxSW conference and showcase series last week, with three awards announced overnight, Australian time.

The San Fernando Valley sisterly group Haim picked up the Developing US Act award, a nice coup in the lead up to their debut album which will be out through Polydor later this year.

Scottish electro-synthpop masters CHVRCHES picked up the Developing Non-US Act Prize after being the talk of the town through Austin last week and the incomparable The Flaming Lips picked up the Career Act prize after 30 years of making weird music and playing weird shows that never fail to thrill and confound.

Those first two names sound familiar? Well maybe it's because our blogger earmarked them as "must-see" acts for SxSW this year. Or perhaps because our reporter on the ground gave props to Haim on day one of the showcase and included CHVRCHES on his end-of-event list? Just sayin'.
