After six seasons of coaching emerging talents on the Australian edition of The Voice, Guy Sebastian has announced that he’s stepping down.
Making the surprise announcement on Instagram yesterday (30 October), Sebastian congratulated the winner of this year’s season – Perth singer Reuben De Melo – before revealing his decision to take a break from The Voice so he can commit to “writing and performing new music.”
In addition to sharing his commitment to writing and touring, Sebastian wrote that he’s planning shows in Australia and internationally. He’s also been working on the follow-up to his 2020 album T.R.U.T.H. over the last four years.
Sebastian began his statement, “Hey beautiful peeps!! Firstly congrats to Reuben De Melo on his win on @thevoiceau this year, SO deserved!
“I have some news to share with you all regarding my role as a Voice coach.
“I have made the decision to take a break from the best red chair on the planet. It’s been six amazing years as a coach & it’s honestly been the best gig ever! I have nothing but good things to say about the show itself & sharing the panel with such amazing coaches has been a pleasure.

“It’s been a privilege to guide the next wave of Aussie talent alongside the wonderful teams & crew at @channel7 & @itvstudiosaus!
“The best thing about the show is how positive it is & how much care and passion goes into making it a safe place for artists.”
He continued by writing that right now, his focus is going to his “core, which is writing and performing new music.”
“I am busy planning shows in Australia & worldwide & I am really looking forward to getting out and connecting with you all there,” Sebastian wrote.
“For too long now, I have been reading comments from you asking when I will be visiting your town/country & it’s high time I come and visit!
I’ve worked on this upcoming album for four years & I’ve poured everything I have into it, so I need to pay respect to that effort & the art I’ve created.
“Whoever has the audacity to take my chair, don’t get too comfortable… I will wrestle for it back with zero dignity when I’m ready to return.
“Thank you everyone, it’s been a blast & let’s keep supporting fresh Aussie talent – it’s some of the best in the world!”
While Sebastian has announced his departure from The Voice, there are already talks about who may fill the chairs next season.
According to Now To Love, TV insiders have reported that Keith Urban and Ronan Keating are interested in being coaches in 2025.
Keating coached emerging talents on the show for one season in 2015. He sat on the panel alongside Delta Goodrem, Jessie J, Joel, and Benji Madden. Meanwhile, Urban coached the 2012, 2021, and 2022 seasons.
This year’s season of The Voice consisted of judges Guy Sebastian, LeAnn Rimes, Adam Lambert, and Kate Miller-Heidke.
