A "crazy few years", including a very public split with long-time manager Titus Day, has inspired Guy Sebastian's new album, TRUTH, released today.

Speaking to The Music, the Aussie singer said his ninth studio record is one that took some time to make.

"I felt fairly isolated and fairly alone," Sebastian said.

"Through that process I learned to trust again and learn to let the right people into my life and it's really paid off in the sense that I feel like I can be myself again.

"I've got this new sense of purpose in the way that I write and the way that I make music."

TRUTH features some of the Malaysian-born songwriter's latest hits including Before I Go, Let Me Drink and Choir, which was yesterday revealed as one of the most streamed songs by an Australian artist this year.

"I feel like every song that I've written on this album has been inspired as opposed to just sitting down and doing a writing session for a project," Sebastian continued.

"It's been challenging for obvious reasons through the pandemic but I had other personal challenges with loss of loved one and also the split [with Day]... but then I had incredibly triumphant moments that were some of the best moments in my life.

"So this album, to me, is a series of real ups and then some real downs."

Sebastian will kick off a headline tour of Australia next month in support of TRUTH; for a look at all of the venues and dates, check out theGuide.
