More Gurrumul Gurrumul Profile

As the date for this year’s National Indigenous Music Awards inches closer, another artist has been named in the prestigious award’s event line-up.

The multi-award winning artist Gurrumul will be premiering three new songs from his forthcoming album titled, The Gospel Album. Gurrumul is the newest addition to the NIMA’s performers on the night and will slide in next to the likes of influential artist Yothu Yindi, B2M and Frank Yamma.

Gurrumul’s album is set to be released a week after the NIMAs on Friday, 31 July and is dedicated to his mother and aunts who brought him up with songs and lullabies from his Elcho Island church.

The Triple J Unearthed competition is still running to uncover the next talented Indigenous artist but entries close on Sunday, 5 July and the winner is announced the following Thursday.

Tickets for the NIMAs, emceed by Malarndirri McCarthy and Kamahi Djordon King, are still available through the Darwin Entertainment Centre with more information found on their website.
