Gregory Porter Returns To Australia This October

It’s been a long time coming, but after eight years, Gregory Porter will return to Australia this October for a string of highly anticipated shows.

Heading to Australia for the first time since 2017, Porter begins his upcoming tour Hobart’s Odeon Theatre on Wednesday, 15 October, followed by the Sydney Opera House on Monday, 20 October, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday, 22 October, Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on Friday, 24 October, and concludes with Perth’s Regal Theatre on Saturday, 25 October and Sunday, 26 October.

The shows will welcome fans of all ages, with the Melbourne and Perth shows occurring as part of the respective cities’ Jazz Festivals. Tickets are now available via Gregory Porter’s website and Act 3 Presents.

Of course, a jazz singer of Porter’s talent won’t be hitting the stage alone. He’ll be joined by prestigious performers such as Chip Crawford (piano and arrangements), Emmanuel Harol (drums), Tivan Pennicott (tenor sax), and Jahmal Nichols (bass).

Porter has released seven albums overall, five of them containing original material. His catalogue is focused on faith—his mother is an ordained minister, and his first public performances as a singer occurred in her church—and the essential role love plays in the lives of human beings.

Porter is considered one of the most revered voices in jazz thanks to his unique blending of soul, gospel, and jazz influences. His 2013 breakthrough Liquid Spirit saw him earn the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album, while his 2016 follow-up Take Me To The Alley repeated the same feat and helped him increase his reputation on a global scale.
