Couple is staying positive as treatment begins

Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt has posted on the punk icons' Facebook page this morning to reveal that his wife Brittney was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

In the post, he advises that she has started undergoing treatment and, importantly, is remaining positive about her diagnosis with the support of doctors, friends and the Green Day family.

The post has generated an outpouring of support in the few hours it has been up so far, with fans from around the world eager to dedicate their prayers and thoughts to the couple.
