Gotye Reunites With The Basics

Sally Anne Hurley

The now Grammy-award winning musician goes back to where it all started for him.

More The Basics The Basics Profile

Gotye is the man of the moment with his three Grammy wins earlier today, but little did we know, he's heading back to his roots this year and teaming up with his old band The Basics.

Before the singer-songwriter hit superstardom, he was a member of this Melbourne band, who had quite the following in the local scene. He formed The Basics back in 2001 with Kris Schroeder, with fellow bandmate Tim Heath joining in 2004. The guys went on an official hiatus when Gotye began to focus on his award-winning Making Mirrors album.

The band will release two compilations on Friday 22 February. Ingredients will be a best of album and Leftovers will feature a bunch of new material the guys have been working on.

Here's one of the clips from a few years back, With This Ship.
