Enjoying his fifth week at the top of Billboard's singles chart, Gotye closes in on Eminem's mark.

More Gotye More Gotye

Gotye is enjoying his fifth week atop Billboard's Hot 100 (America's singles chart) this week as the charts find another record for him to close in on: his stint at the top becomes the longest by a male solo artist since Eminem's seven week reign in mid 2010.

Gotye is, of course, up the top with his unstoppable track Somebody That I Used To Know, which, featuring guest vocals by Kimbra, is one of the most successful musical exports from Australia since the turn of the millennium. Eminem's 2010 success also came with something of a duet, his Love The Way You Lie featured vocals from Rihanna.

Another male to enjoy stints at the top recently is Bruno Mars, whose Grenade enjoyed four weeks in January/February 2011 and Just The Way You Are another four weeks in October 2010. Gotye passes both these stints this week.

Somebody That I Used To Know is leading other American charts as well. The track's atop Hot Digital Songs, Rock Songs, Alternative Songs, Dance/Club Play (thanks to a few remixes), On-Demand Songs and Ringtones. It's also up in France, Canada and, not to compare them, MySpace.

It also gained in Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay this week, with 132 million counts, a seven percent rise, holding him two.

All his success is overshadowing fellow Aussie Sia's somewhat, as her track with Flo Rida - Wild Ones - remains at five on the Hot 100.

And for a bit of fun., here's another cover of Gotye's tune. This one from Splendour guest fun. with guest vocals by Paramore's Hayley Williams.
