Gorillaz Detail New Album To Feature IDLES, Sparks, Johnny Marr & More

British alternative virtual band Gorillaz will release their ninth album, The Mountain, in early 2026.

Set for release on Friday, 20 March, via the band’s new label KONG, Gorillaz have unveiled the first single, The Happy Dictator featuring Sparks, which you can check out below.

The creation of Blur vocalist Damon Albarn and animator Jamie Hewlett, Gorillaz comprises singer 2D, bassist Murdoc Niccals, drummer Russel Hobbs and Japanese guitar prodigy Noodle. The forthcoming album is an expansive smorgasbord of sounds, instruments, and vocals, with its addictive beats and melodies taking listeners on a journey throughout its 15-song tracklist.

In addition to Sparks, The Mountain features a stacked list of collaborators, including IDLES, Johnny Marr, Trueno, Yasiin Bey, and many others, plus samples of voices and collaborators of those who have “gone before us,” including Bobby Womack, Dennis Hopper, and Mark E-Smith.

The Mountain was recorded at Studio 13 in London and Devon, plus locations including Mumbai, Damascus, Los Angeles, and more, while artists perform in multiple languages, such as English, Arabic, Hindi, Spanish, and Yoruba. The band produced the album alongside James Ford, Samuel Egglenton, Remi Kabaka Jr., and Bizarrap (Orange County).

In 2026, Gorillaz will take The Mountain on tour, beginning with massive dates across the UK and Ireland from March to June, including their first-ever headline stadium show at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, 20 June 2026.

Hobbs said of the forthcoming album, “As space dust we are here forever, and that’s a mighty long time. This is a musical meditation infused with light. A journey of the soul, with beats…”
