The Australia-Singapore duo release their first extended player today
Emergent duo Vandemons — individually, Dee Norris and Vanessa Fernandez — release their self-titled debut EP via Medallion Sounds today, and theMusic.com.au is proud to present the premiere listen of the five-track (well, technically eight-track) release today.
The new work was born after Norris and Fernandez met "in the Malaysian jungle" back at the start of 2016, going on to spend 10 days together jamming before spending the next year collaborating across the sea between their respective homes in Australia and Singapore.
According to the duo, the EP's artwork, by Jeff Read, explores "a visual representation of two rebels battling using music in a way that's both focused and instinctive" — "music as weaponry", Fernandez, aka Vandetta, as describes it.

The tunes themselves bridge drum-and-bass, hip hop, R&B, soul and all the aural nooks and crannies in-between, with the pair showcasing their strengths — Norris' intricate, expertly arranged beats and production, along with Vandetta's alluring, warm vocal tones — to craft their distinctively organic and engaging style of electronica.
The ascendant pair even secured a guest spot from renowned muso N'fa Jones on third track Can You Go The Distance, something of a significant coup for a group still finding their footing.
The three bonus tracks come in the form of remixes from equally talented musicians including Tehbis x Touchy Subject, Stereotyp and Royalston, all of whom lend their own unique elements to the soundscape, in effect helping Vandemons deliver more a mini-album of sorts than a strict, shorter EP — and it's all the richer for it.
