George Clinton Parliament-Funkadelic Bring The Mothership To Golden Plains

19 October 2012 | 9:30 am | Scott Fitzsimons

Clinton and 17 of his best mates are going to the Supernatural Ampitheatre

The next announcement for Golden Plains 2013 has come through and it is a big one! No, seriously, it's big. Like, 17-members big.

George Clinton, with his bands Parliament and Funkadelic, is arguably the most influential funk musician of all time – there aren't too many other artists who could be considered in the same ballpark as this guy. There is no one quite like Clinton and, even at the age of 71, he tours the world with an enormous band, slamming out massive funk jams that fuse together to make marathon sets of dancing, partying and generally having a good, funky time.

Letting George Clinton Parliament-Funkadelic loose at Golden Plains is one of the best ideas the organisers have ever had; we get the feeling these guys will play long into the night and the early morning, as is their wont, and we know that the freakiest of people will be there with them the entire time.

Music wise it's hard to know where to start with Clinton, his songs are some of the most sampled in the history of contemporary music and they go through some seriously psychedelic funk through their sets. Free your mind and your ass will follow, get ready to climb aboard the mothership, make sure you wear your sunglasses (hat's the law around here, you got to wear your sunglasses. So you can feel cool.) If you don't understand any of this then you're probably not going to know what the fuck is going on when Parliament-Funkadelic play next year's Golden Plains, but you're going to love it.
