The punk-centric memorial festival returns to Sydney this December
Following on from the rambunctious success of last year's inaugural Gingerfest, the Aussie punk community is set to unite for a follow-up celebration in December this year, unveiling a line-up crammed with some of the absolute finest names in riotous good-timery including Gay Paris, The Porkers, The Stiffys and several others.
Named in honour of a beloved scene mainstay, the late Nicholas 'Ginger Ninja' Sofer-Schreiber, this year's Gingerfest will also see performances from reunited Sydney punks Irrelevant, Melbourne legends The Sinking Teeth, folk-punk luminaries The Hard Aches, Mitch Hedberg enthusiasts and blistering shredders God God Dammit Dammit, plus Optionals, Fait Accompli, The Ramshackle Army, Nerdlinger and more, not to mention the probable madness of the nebulously defined Jay & Lindsay's Variety Hour.
"'The Ginger Ninja' dedicated his life to punk rock, so it's only fair that we dedicate our punk rock festival to his life," organisers said of the event's philosophy. "Celebrating Nicky's life through music and this festival is one way we know his memory will live on."
Gingerfest will once again be held at Sydney's Factory Theatre in 2015, taking over the space on Saturday 19 December. Tickets for this year's event go on sale via the venue this coming Tuesday 6 October. Proceeds from the event will be once again donated to Vision Australia and be reinvested into accruing funds to ensure events such as this live on well into the future.
