Gary Morris Relinqushes Role As Midnight Oil Manager

The sixth member of The Oils is gone.

After weeks of speculation surrounding a possible reformation of legendary Australian rock group Midnight Oil, today the band's long-time manager and so-called "sixth member" Gary Morris has announced he will no longer be working with the group.

Gary Morris and Midnight Oil released a statement this afternoon confirming the news.

“Midnight Oil's legacy is undeniable, we have achieved great things together, there is much to be proud of in the band's list of achievements, we are brothers in arms and I will always be there for them” Morris said in the statement.

“However in light of recent speculation as to whether the band will reconvene now that Peter is quitting the political arena, now is the time to make my own position clear as to my future involvement with Midnight Oil.”

Morris started managing the band in the late 1970s and was fearless in ensuring they maintained their integrity while soaring to lofty levels of international success through the 1980s.

“We truly did accomplish amazing and enduring things working together and we should treasure that, now and in the future.” said lead singer Peter Garrett.

“This news comes with mixed emotions: quiet reflection, warm affection and misty nostalgia for our shared history, alongside a real sense of achievement and well-deserved pride,” drummer Rob Hirst said.

The statement said that the band has no plans to reform at this point in time.
