Future Popes Takes Over Booking At Grace Darling Bandroom

3 April 2017 | 5:32 pm | Staff Writer

Outgoing booker John Waddell is relocating to New Zealand

Venerated industry jacks-of-all-trades Future Popes will take over booking duties at beloved live venue The Grace Darling in the near future as outgoing booker John Waddell prepares to make the leap to New Zealand.

Without forsaking their existing PR, touring or other activities, the Future Popes crew will bring The Grace Darling into its welcoming arms as the venue readies itself for its 180-capacity bandroom to be upgraded.

That renovation will entail a heightened attention to environmental and social issues, and will introduce initiatives such as scaling back use of plastic drinking straws — a la Brisbane's Crowbar — as well as making efforts to slowly shift their beer menu to Australian-only, with a "strong focus on Victorian" brews.

Further measures include the installation of solar panels on the roof, and a push by the venue's restaurant to serve "only locally and ethically sourced produce" in addition to composting waste and leftovers.
